New Initiative Aims to Enhance Mental Health Support in Community

The Mental Well-Being Initiative, launched by St. Luke's Wood River Foundation in partnership with Communities for Youth, aims to bolster mental health support in the community. This initiative was announced on July 10, 2025, and focuses on reducing feelings of alienation while promoting social connections among youth and adults in Blaine County.

Community Engagement and Support Programs

A central feature of the initiative is the Blaine County Well-being Ambassadors Program, which seeks to create stronger social ties through organized small gatherings. These ambassadors will host monthly meetings to share insights and foster a supportive environment for mental health discussions. The program is designed to address the mental health needs of students, faculty, and staff through enhanced support systems.

Dedicated Mental Health Units

As part of the comprehensive approach to mental health, the initiative includes the creation of specialized units like the Student Health and Well-Being unit. This unit integrates Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) and the Center for Collegiate Recovery (CRC) to provide targeted support. Additionally, an Employee Health and Well-Being unit has been established, featuring the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) to cater to the needs of faculty and staff.

The leadership team is committed to ensuring the continuity of services and improving access to mental health care for all community members. This effort complements the existing Student Mental Health Initiative, which aims to promote student flourishing and establish a dedicated division for student health.

New Facilities for Youth Mental Health

Expanding on the initiative's goals, a new youth mental health center has opened in Westchester, located at 657 E. Main St., Mount Kisco. This 4,000-square-foot facility offers same-day walk-in crisis care and outpatient services for patients up to age 21. The center is an integral part of the community's strategy to provide immediate and accessible mental health support for young people.

Ongoing Commitment to Mental Wellness

The initiative's introduction has received positive responses from community members, highlighting a strong desire for health and wellness support. Access to services remains uninterrupted, ensuring that individuals can continue to receive the care they need. The initiative also supports a community of health and wellness practitioners, working collectively to enhance the overall mental well-being of the community.

“The Mental Well-Being Initiative represents a significant step towards fostering a supportive environment for mental health in our community,” a spokesperson for St. Luke's Wood River Foundation stated. “We are committed to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure everyone has access to mental health care.”

This comprehensive approach to mental health is a proactive measure to address the growing need for mental wellness support in various community sectors. By promoting collaboration and providing dedicated resources, the initiative aims to create a sustainable model for mental health care that can benefit the entire community.
